Can you tell us about you and your company’s work?
At Candel Therapeutics, we develop viral immunotherapies to induce immunogenic cell death in cancer cells at the site of injection, uncovering tumor neo-antigens within an activated microenvironment. This process leads to a systemic, durable immune response against the solid tumor, potentially changing disease outcomes across various indications.
Immunotherapy has transformed how we treat cancer. Our viral immunotherapies have been genetically engineered to minimize the impact on healthy tissue while maximizing the patient’s immune response to fight the tumor.
My role at Candel is to lead the process development strategy, specifically the Downstream portion of the process. My activities involve investigating and eventually defining the unit operations necessary to purify our engineered vector in a manner compatible with a Commercial manufacturing process that meets regulatory agencies (FDA, EMA, etc) standards.

What was your process of selecting an ELN? What were the main reasons you chose SciNote?
Our Quality team took the lead in searching for an appropriate ELN platform for the company. Candel has a very talented group of scientists, and luckily many of us have experienced several ELNs in the past. That collective experience contributed to a robust selection process in which ease of use, affordability, and compliance with regulatory guidelines was paramount in selecting SciNote.

What benefits did you see after you started using SciNote?
Out of the gate, SciNote has significantly simplified the exchange of information between different teams at Candel. SciNote is a cloud-based platform that makes documentation, analysis, and data sharing effortless. Documentation of lab activities tends to be particularly difficult with other platforms; however, SciNote accessibility from any electronic device, whether it be a PC, Laptop, or Tablet, leads to a straightforward approach that is far superior to conventional paper-based Lab Notebooks.
On a personal note, two of my favorite aspects are: how convenient it is to create links and references between inventories, protocols, and experiments; the other is how seamlessly I can upload and edit files. This latter aspect makes it easy to keep records produced by an instrument inside a SciNote experiment.

What has your experience with the SciNote team been?
In a single word, outstanding. It is not easy to find support teams that are so organized, diligent, and speedy. In particular, our Customer Success Manager, Audrey Apgar, has been a key player in implementing the platform at Candel; she is always quick to respond and goes above and beyond by patiently listening and guiding us on better ways to make use of SciNote
