Introducing SciNote’s New Project Insights Dashboard: A Powerful View Into Your Lab’s Workflows
3 min read
We’re excited to announce the launch of the new Project Insights dashboard(BETA) in SciNote, an intuitive, data-driven view to help labs better monitor progress, allocate resources, and identify roadblocks across their research projects.
What Is the Project Insights Dashboard?
Project Insights is a new dashboard in SciNote that provides visual summaries of project activity through four interactive widgets:
- Status Overview – Pie charts displaying the distribution of experiments or tasks across different statuses.
- Team Workload – Bar charts showing how tasks are distributed among team members, helping understand each contributor’s current load.
- Tasks Due – A focused view on upcoming or overdue tasks, categorized by due date (e.g., Today, Tomorrow, This Week).
- Bottlenecks – Highlights tasks that have had no recent activity and may be delaying progress—a key view for identifying workflow slowdowns.
These widgets present real-time, project-level summaries accessible to any user who has access to a given project.
How Can Your Lab Use Project Insights?
The dashboard is designed for scientific teams, principal investigators, and research administrators or project leads who need quick, actionable visibility into ongoing research.
Here are three specific ways it can make a difference in your lab:
Lab Managers - Spot Bottlenecks and Balance Team Workload
Lab managers can use the dashboard to quickly identify overdue tasks or workflows that are getting stuck. The Team Workload widget also helps redistribute tasks more evenly across lab members, ensuring no one is overloaded, and no project is left behind.
Quality & Compliance Officers - Track Completion and Task Timeliness
The structured overview of task statuses and due dates is valuable for ensuring timelines are met and for preparing audits or reports, especially in labs following GxP or regulated protocols.
Principal Investigators (PIs) - See PhD Student Progress at a glance
Instead of opening multiple projects and tasks, a PI can now use Project Insights to get an immediate overview of what each student or postdoc is actively working on, how far along their tasks are, and where delays might be happening. This makes lab meeting prep and supervision more efficient and informed.
Why It Matters?
By centralizing key project metrics in one place, Project Insights eliminates guesswork and keeps your team aligned. Whether you’re managing a multi-member academic lab or overseeing projects in a biotech startup, access to structured data helps you improve planning, reporting, and collaboration.
